Message from the MASO President
Dr. Constance Greeley

Facing the Future
Change is the staple our lives and our profession. We can guide and direct that change or be victims of it. The choice is ours. As we enter the second decade of the new millennium, we are keenly aware that our practices will be impacted by decisions that we make or by decisions that are imposed on by others. Our goal must be to lead our profession so that decisions that affect orthodontics are patient-centered and not focused on regression toward the mean.
We can only do that through the strength and participation of our membership. MASO is 1158 members strong. But like all entities it is only as strong as its weakest link. It is time for us to look up, speak up and not ever give up. I urge all of you to get involved today so that our current leaders can pass the torch to capable hands.
Diverse opinions can lead to healthy discussions and eventually sound policies. We don’t have to always agree. Since “all politics is local” so it is with orthodontics. Start by volunteering on a committee. Go with your strengths and grow from there. If we don’t manage ourselves, someone will volunteer to do it for us. And to no good end. I offer you my favorite quote from Hillel: If not now, when? If not us, who?
Please mark your calendars to attend our annual session in conjunction with GLAO at the beautiful Breakers in
Palm Beach
Florida
September 30th to October 3rd.
